The ultimate team of on trend up-and-coming Interior Designers and Architects will be sharing their experience at this year’s Decorex Johannesburg!

Franke has teamed up with design and decor-obsessed Influencers at this flagship Decorex exhibition. Synonymous with sophisticated décor and design, Decorex is bringing the finest localised products, interior stylists and creative inspiration to Johannesburg. Minimalist interiors, bold wallpapers, dried botanics and reinvented archways… visitors will be introduced to all the latest trends set to takeover home and office interiors across the city. And our #FrankeSquad will be there to cover it!

Meet our Squad:

Anika Alberts is currently studying at the Interior Design at the Interior Design Institute of South Africa. Anika’s current décor vibe is Biophilic Design which focuses on incorporating experiences of the natural world into modern environments.

Neo modernism inspires Raadiyah Omar’s style! Just recently she was lucky enough to visit the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, California, designed by biggest architectural inspiration, Frank Gehry. Raadiyah is a BA Interior Design Degree student at Greenside Design Center.

Lerato Modise, a Bachelor of Architectural Studies student at the University of the Witwatersrand, draws both her design and personal style inspiration from the all-time vintage feel. Think Audrey Hepburn or Marilyn Monroe… and you’re on the right track.  You can never go wrong with velvet is what Lerato is currently all about when we talk Décor! “Be it a pillow or a throw on your bed, it always does the trick. Even if it is one or two cushions on your lounge, or even better, the sofa or ottoman itself. “

As a third year Interior Design student at the University of Johannesburg, Russell Winter’s is constantly developing his style through his experiences which merge into something uniquely his own. His current favourite decor trend is monochromatic décor from ceiling to floor, which skilfully with varying tints and shades of a single colour can have a great effect. Speaking passionately about his favourite interior Russel has this to say: “The "Tugendhat house" in in Czech republic is my favourite interior currently. Designed by Mies Van Der Rohe , I fell in love with the half-circle around the dining room set and the rest of the house followed suit as everything falls into place with very little interruptions of unnecessary planar elements, the finishes speak of elegance and wealth”.

Kaanita Patel is a 3rd Year Interior Design student Greenside Design Center who likes experimenting with different styles and finds herself attracted to any unique piece that is different to your norm.  She is currently obsessed with the Interpendependence Bench by Houtlander.

A Master’s student in Interior Architecture at the University of Pretoria, this is not Audrey Nanjala first rodeo at Decorex Johannesburg. Audrey is all about minimalism, simplicity and comfort. At the top of her list of inspirational architectural projects is the serene and sculptural Bosjes Chapel in the Western Cape.

Décor & design runs through Slade’s blood! Born to an Architect Father and an Interior Designer Mother, Slade Miles has attended every Decorex show since the age of 11! He is currently studying a bachelor’s degree In Interior Design Greenside Design Centre. His favourite décor trend is Memphis Design – a style that uses unashamedly brash and bold colours and geometric patterns. Slade takes inspiration from magazines, furniture shops, design websites and other interior designers and his current #furniturecrush is the Southern Guild Chair by Anatomy Design.

Batsile Mametse is a passionate Architecture student at the University of Johannesburg and takes her inspiration from a combination of different art forms; fashion, art, music and architecture in its form and concept.  When asked what her most inspirational architectural building is Batsile was torn between two. “I love the Sagrada Família in Spain for its historical value and the Ribbon Chapel in Japan for its contemporary elegance. Both architectures have a strong design in terms of theme and time, technology and material. They manifest with their interior as well.”

Khanyii Ngubane, a 2nd year Architecture student at Tshwane University of Technology has a minimalistic style and most often draws her inspiration from African cultures and their history. She hopes to one day visit the monument to modernism, the Guggenheim Museum in New York City, which is her ultimate architectural project inspiration. This will be her first visit to the show and we already know it will be her first visit of many!
